Aside from its natural beauty one aspect that keeps people returning to Big Sur is its sense of isolation. This quality also makes it extremely difficult to get there, however. Big Sur is only accessible by driving(no public transport/train/airport) so you must either rent a car and drive yourself, or stay in Monterey/Carmel and catch the shuttle on the day of the wedding.
Monterey Peninsula Airport, MRY:
montereyairport.com
About a one hour drive from Big Sur, Monterey airport is technically the closest, although it is a tiny airport, that will require a commuter leg from a major hub nearby.
San Jose International Airport, SJC: sjc.org
Located a little over 2 hours drive from Big sur, this is the closest major airport. This will be your cheaper alternative.
As stated before
all guests must catch a shuttle to and from the wedding.
All shuttles to Pain have been privately arranged to pick everyone up from your hotels located in Big Sur between 1:00pm and 2:00pm to get you to Paion by 2:30pm.
If you are not staying in Big Sur, then you must catch the shuttle departing from Carmel at noon.
The shuttle pickup in Carmel is the Bank of America Parking lot located in the Crossroads shopping mall located at Hwy 1 and Rio Road in Carmel.
